August Show and Tell

In August we met at the Genesee County Nursing home once more due to a paperwork issue at the VA.
It's a bright and airy space, so as "second choices" go, it isn't bad at all!

Cheryl Doody made this piece for a challenge, fussy cutting several yards of fabric in the process!

The pot of leaves below will be a Christmas gift. Turns out the pattern was designed by Sharon Larsen's sister-in-law!

Ann Rupert has been making mug rugs

Ann Renica's Bargello class project- top only.  It will be given away before the next meeting

Pat Gardner's finished bargello class project

Lori Anderson finished her Fourth of July runner, even though she missed it for this year.

Lori also shared this comfort quilt made for her by the members of the "ArtCGirlz" group.  All they were told is that Lori likes batiks.  The fact that the colors all go together and the design  motifs are all balanced is pure coincidence.  Lori took this with her for every one of her chemo treatments to keep warm in body and spirit!

Susan Rathbun finished her Anne Brauer inspired piece.  She calls it "A Rigid Mind"

Susan finished this community service quilt in memory of a friend who passed away before she could get it done

Melanie Watson made this little notepad holder....

...and this cute little zippered bag.

Kathi finally got her Nancy Crow class project back, and Val Schultz quilted it for her.

Many Thanks to Alex Hammon for holding most of the above items for Show and tell!

We also enjoyed a lengthy show and tell of UFO challenge projects, many still in bags or kits!  If they all get finished in time for the 2014 quilt show, we are all in for a treat!!!

I wasn't able to stay for the Jelly Roll Race community Service sew-in.  If anyone took pictures, please send them to me and I'll get them posted.

Annual picnic at a very special place!

A small group of members were treated to a lovely day at the Hillside Inn in Wyoming.  Member Emmy Hartwick and her husband Paul worked with the owners to allow this. Thank you, Emmy and Paul!

Emmy even led us on a sort of tour of the Inn. Most of us wanted to buy it as a permanent home and retreat center for the Guild!

Oh, yeah, we had show and tell, too.

Mary Ellen Ames made this Labyrinth quilt.  Val ASchultz quilted it for her.

Martha made a folded Hexie flower.  She mentioned making more for whatever.  Suggestions ranged from Christmas ornaments to making  600 for quilt show favors.

Martha has been painting fabric for possible use in a challenge over at the ArtCGirlz.

MaryLee has been cleaning in anticipation of her move.  She did not want this quilt top, started many years ago.
Someone took it to finish and donate to the silet auction.  ( I think it was Val)

Mary is still playing with Ann Brauer's technique.  This piece was inspired by the skinny strip of batik along the edge.
This is the house Mary is leaving, commemorated in fabric.

Kathi did some soy wax resist dyeing at a workshop.

Not sure- Kathi may have done this with paintsticks(?).

The August  meeting is at the Genesee County Nursing Home.  Bring your UFO's for show and tell and a challenge!
