Settling in to New Digs

New York Beauty Horses by Karen Roll

You may notice things look a bit different these days.  Due to issues with our previous venue, we have relocated. There are huge advantages to the new venue, but a few drawbacks, such as no stage for show and tell.  (Still, the benefits far outweigh the downsides!!!)  I say this just by way of letting everyone know the pictures may be less perfectly framed now.  I will do my best to show each item as completely as I can.

Barb Sage made this little quilt to hang on her door for spring

Barb had trouble matching the green in the fencing fabric she found for this gift-to-be graduate.

Barb made this appliqué quilt (top) in memory of her cat

Sue Gagne made this scrabble quilt with children's names as a gift for a family member.

Jeannie Gloser used some batiks she found on a bargain table at a quilt shop for this quilt.

Mary Kozub is hoping to find time to finish this baby quilt for a little one in her family.

Terry McGuire pieced this with Community Service fabrics, but would like to find more of the Spiderman fabric!

Terry also finished her Bonnie Hunter mystery, and wonders why no one else wanted with around 1700 pieces in it.

Elaine Moody was given some fabrics, so she made quilts for community service (above and below)

Nancy Mitchel  also pieced some tops from  Community Service kits (above and below)

Nancy is the first to show us her finished quilt top from the curved piecing class with Sheri Cifaldi Morrill.  Now she's deciding how- and who- to quilt it.

Elaine Ross presented this gorgeous cardinals quilt!

Nancy Schrader is hoping to donate this tactile quilt to a patient with Alzheimer's

Nancy pieced two of these last year for a Jack and Jill shower.

Liz Scott said she's ahead of the game with this autumn themed wool appliqué runner.

Connie Grimsley found this paper piecing pattern  of Niagara Falls on etsy.  This is her entry for the Genesee Valley Quilt Club's "America the Beautiful" challenge.

Our speaker, Karen Roll, from Castile, loves to portraits and figures in her work.  During her presentation she shared her process and techniques, including the fact that she is often the person on retreat, picking up the tiny scraps others have dropped on the floor!!

This is one of a series of carousel horses (and lions)

Karen enters the Hoffman Challenge most years as a way to make her finish things!  This was her firsst piece accepted into the traveling exhibit.

This one is sort of a self portrait of Karen taking a walk on a windy day.

                                                 Another Hoffman Challenge entry

Karen would love to hear from us if we have questions, or need advice on a project!  Just ask Sue for her information!

Next month there will be a short workshop to make favors for the quilt show.  Check with Elaine Moodie to see what the needs are- no sewing machines required!
