On a dog day in August...

Summer has set in with its usual severity. ~Samuel Taylor Coleridge

It was a sultry day, but the members who came to the August meeting enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow quilters, a nice show and tell, then a trunk show from member Jean Butzer.

Nancy Ellers started things off with  a couple of tells, showing some products she has recently tried.  One is a bobbin holder gadget, and the other is washable crayola crayons, which Nancy hopes to use to mark her quilts.  Stay tuned.

Nancy made a heart pillow for breast cancer patients.
Nancy also made labels for the pillows if anyone wants to use them.

And Nancy just had to make this "Raise the tension" quilt after seeing it online.

Nancy was asked to make a "Sponge Bob" quilt for a little girl.  So she did this on one side....

...and this one the other, so the child wold have something to cuddle after growing out of the Sponge Bob phase.

Below you can see the ocean motifs she quilted into it.

Nancy is still learning to use her "Destiny" and shared an oopsie with us.

Junamae Quternous brought in her bird quilt to show, replete with the awards it has won!

Junamae enjoyed the wool felt project from class so much, she made another one

This one is called Just a Little Bit.

Mary Lowe's granddaughter asked her to make a quilt that "looked like the ocean, but with  no sharks."  Excellent job!

Elaine Ross's small art group challenge this month was to interpret the work of Gustav Klimt.  Elaine used "inktense" pencils to do the colors on the trees.

Elaine worked on this Clematis piece in Florida last winter.

Melanie Watson discovered some bonus half square triangles from the raffle quilt three or four shows ago, and had fun making coasters and a trivet for the silent auction at the next show!

Shirley Lapp enjoyed the scraps she got in the swap last month, creating this sweet quilt top

Donna Tomski has been making paper pieced greeting cards, using Carol Doak patterns.

Lori Anderson bought the pattern for this wool felt pincushion from the BC Woolery back in April, and had fun making it.

Lori also made several mastectomy pillows for community service.  The pattern has been in the newsletter, and you can find it here.

Alex modeled how easy they are to keep close at hand using the strap.

New member Maria Adams is getting ready for Christmas early! (smart!)

Another new member, Sandy Shufelt, made this very sweet little quilt.

This is Sandy's go-to baby quilt pattern.  She keeps one handy, and just adds a label!

Sandy's Halloween scarecrow.

Sandy tried some hand embroidery and used it as the center for this very cool Halloween quilt. The wreath is formed by prairie points!

Here's Sandy, showing one of the portable ironing pads she made.

Linda Prouty added the squares on point border to this quilt she made for her niece.

Following the break, we were treated to a trunk show by our own Jean Butzer.

Jean began her presentation by quizzing us on how well we know out quilters acronyms.  Do you know what they mean?
TGIF
WIWMI
PHD
WWIT
HSY

There is a rather comprehensive list - including the answers- of these terms here.

Jean showed us many of her beautiful quilts.  We've seen most of them before, but they are always a treat!

After the meeting, Jean taught part one of the Heirloom machine applique class.  So, hopefully very soon we will get to see the results!

There is still room in the Paula Nadelstern classes in October.  Click the link at the top of the page for details.  Make sure you tell your friends!
