The April meeting was very inspirational, as you will see. In addition to the always beautiful show and tell from our members, we enjoyed a visit from the
Western New York Modern Quilters. (who said they loved our show and tell)

In case you missed it, the 2017 Challenge theme is "Bars". There were members pointing out this would fit!

Here is a full sized version of the same design. (I bet there will be a smaller one soon.) |

Ann Renica had to get permission from her grandson, Noah, to keep this Death Star quilt long enough to share it with us. She started it on a recent visit with him.
Emmy Hartwick is trying to finish some of her older projects for the quilt show. She brought several fabrics to get opinions on borders for this beautiful log cabin quilt.
|
Emmy made this as a graduation gift for her granddaughter. |
Cynda Watroba managed to find enough snow to do some dyeing this winter, and is having fun trying different designs and resists.
These are the scraps and failed blocks Cynda made for the quilt below.

|
Martha's "Opulent Ornament", from a pattern by Paula Nadelstern |
Terry McGuire read us a very funny commentary her husband wrote on the dangers of quilting. If this works, you can read it
here.
After the break, the Modern Quilters took over. They are a fun and talented group of ladies!
We learned a few things about the principles of "Modern Quilting":
1- the use of bright colors and solids
2- using the principles of modern art
3- using grey or white as background fabrics
4- using a lot of "negative space"
Then we enjoyed a wonderful trunk show!
I didn't have the chance to get titles or maker's information, so please contact them for more information. (They are on
facebook)
|
Not all modern quilt use bright colors! |
