We welcomed Sharon Stroud to our meeting today. Delivering a wonderful lecture based on her Dresden Plates of Distinction.

This quilt illustrates how you can make a pair of blades one image, in this instance she paired butterfly wings.

If this fabric were still available I know some of us would want it! It is a quilt Sharon hangs in her library's annual show for the re-enjoyment of many!

This is the whole quilt pieced with the owl fabric shown in the border. Notice all the variations in the plates.

A workshop followed the meeting. Sixteen of us were able to learn how to make our own plates and enjoy Sharon for a few more hours! Thanks Sharon for a great day of quilting and inspiration!

Next month we will experience Melanie & Mary Ann aka Ethel & Lucy! We get to Meet Two Members!

December 12th will be our annual Holiday celebration. Bring a dish to share.

We will also have a gift exchange. I ask that you make a boutique quality item. This does not have to be holiday themed. Make something you would love to receive! If we have to put a monetary value on this...let's say something you would sell for around $15.00.

September's Show 'n Tell~Pat Pauly Lecture

Pat Pauly was our exuberant speaker! We had our first Powerpoint presentation and after much ado we managed to get things going! It was an informative lecture and we thank her.

It's always nice to see what everyone is working on. We encourage you to bring something to share, big or small. Introducing each other to different things is what motivates us! So don't be shy!

It's our Birthday!

Did you know the Guild is 30 years old this month??? Kate Martin has been working with the staff at the Holland Land Office Museum to prepare a display to commemorate this fact. On Sept 9, six original members of the Guild came together with several volunteers to create a sort of "look how far we've come" showing.




With eager anticipation, the staff watched as the quilts were unfolded and stories were shared of the early days.
Trudy Kutter brought a group quilt made by those early members and reminisced about sitting around the frame together and quilting during the free time they had while children were in school.
Many laughs were shared about the fabrics in those early quilts. One member said people ask why we only used pindots? The answer: that was all there was!

A reception will be held on Friday, September 25 from 6- 9 pm to honor the founding members and meet any members of the public who come to join the celebration.

Caren Betlinski Thread Painting Class

The Caren Betlinski Thread Painting class was a wonderful day spent learning an interesting technique! Caren's kit contained all the prepared surfaces for us to practice the free motion "painting" and all the components for students to move along in creating their own composition of the Black Eyed Susan's. The top picture is Caren's piece.

At least 1/2 the class had fused their images onto the background by the end of the day. Part of Caren's instruction was how to add the accent fabric to the background to really make the piece our own.

Each of us were given the same pattern and each one is different! I look forward to seeing these in Show n' Tell!

Pat is a member of RAFA (Rochester Area Fiber Artists) and GVQC (Genesee Valley Quilt Club). Expect exuberance!

In October we will welcome Sharon Stroud.

Show n' Tell is certainly a favorite part of every meeting. I must apologize now for not knowing everyone and who's quilt is who's! I hope to set up a better recording system while I take the pictures at the meetings. Maybe our Secretary Eula would assist me?

Donna Tomski had help from her grandchildren making this quilt for her daughter, their mom. Each child made drawings for mom and Donna made it into this treasured gift.

Who made this quilt? Help me out! It is so colorful and it was for Community Service. Nice.

I know who made these! Cheryl Doodie made them for Community Service also. They have dog & cat fabrics in them.

Melanie's aunt or if you prefer, Maryanne's sister, made this patriotic quilt. I think she said it was for the VA (this is why I need a Secretary!)

Stunning quilt. Many pieces. The circles were appliqued.

Barb ran classes for this quilt at Betty's Quilt shop. Lots of techniques to learn while completing a beautiful quilt.

Barb was a gracious speaker and shared her quilt journey. She had numerous patterns marketed by Quiltwoman.com and 2 books coming out very soon. AccuquiltGo! also has her busy designing quilts for their new system. This Fall a 19 pattern fabric collection designed by Barb will be coming out too! Talented woman. Summer time meetings!

Did you all know we are one of very few Guilds who continue to meet all summer long? Many take the summer off, like school kids. I for one am very glad we don't.
So, what has the Guild been up to during the summer?
We had our annual picnic at the July meeting. LOTS of really good food, as usual. I really should make dessert the first thing I eat, since I get filled up with those "nutritious" foods and can't choke down more than three or four dessert items!!!
