STITCHES in TIME QUILT SHOW INFO
Members
of the Museum Quilt Guild in Batavia, NY are busy creating their quilts
for display at the Museum Quilt Guild Quilt Show “Stitches in Time” for
2012. The show will be held Friday, October 19 from 10 am - 6 pm, and Saturday, October
20, from 10 am - 5 pm. Admission to the show is $5.
The show has a new location. Alexander Firemen’s Recreation Hall
on Rte 98 in Alexander, NY will be the site of the show this year.
Easily accessible from points North, South, East and West, the Rec. Hall
is located about 9 miles south of Batavia, NY. We will post directions
as the date nears.
This year's show features approximately 240 quilts ranging in size from a
small wall hanging to a large bed quilt in a variety of designs, plus
home decor items and wearable art. Some of the quilts are hand pieced or
hand quilted while others are completely machine-pieced and quilted.
Some are original designs created by their makers while others are
constructed from a commercial pattern. Whatever the design or technique,
each is considered a work of art. The artistry starts with the fabric

Along with the quilt display, there will also be a silent auction and
boutique with items for sale that have been made by our members. Raffle
basket and door prizes will also be awarded. Several vendors will be on
hand to provide their quilt-related wares. And don't forget to buy tickets for our beautiful raffle quilt (below)!

The Stitches in Time 2012 Raffle quilt: Colorful to the End
This Queen sized (78” x 102”) quilt was designed by member Martha Lorshbaugh, using the block layout from a scrap quilt she saw in the February/ March 2011 issue of McCall’s Quick Quilts magazine.
The original quilt featured batiks in bright jewel tones, but Martha saw the design as a chance to play with colors. Using crayons and a scrap of paper, Martha played with different variations of color before choosing the rainbow layout.
Martha had assistance from members Mary Ellen Ames and Alex Hammon when she went to the store to choose the fabrics.
Mt Pleasant Quilting Company owner Barb Miller allowed the girls to look through the
Moda Marbles collection to find colors missing from the shop’s collection, ordering many of the fabrics after the choices were made.
After the fabrics were delivered, Martha did some figuring, planning and recruiting of volunteers who helped her cut and prepare kits for the blocks at an afternoon work session at the VA. After all the blocks were returned, Martha laid them all out on a sheet to assure correct color placement. The team of volunteers was called on again to go to work on Martha’s dining room table and assemble the quilt row by row! A strip pieced border was added to the give the piece a frame.
The real magic happened when Martha worked with Debbie Kenney of Mt Pleasant, using pictures of fanciful feathers and Debbie’s amazing talent, to do the machine quilting. Each color stripe is colored in matching thread, but the borders are all done in a rainbow thread, adding just a touch of color to the black frame.
The backing fabric is a perfect match to the colors on the front.
Martha isn’t in any hurry to give this quilt up, but promises to smile graciously should she not be the lucky one when the winning ticket is drawn in October!
The Decor Committee is planning a sunny surprise for the quilt show.
Quilt stands will be protected by cheerful sunflowers made by guild
members at a workshop after the August meeting. Members will "nurture"
their sunflowers at home and then "plant" them around the quilt show on
October 19th and 20th. Sunny smiles all around. Many thanks to Mary
Ellen Casey who designed the flowers!
The MEMBER BOUTIQUE at the Quilt Show is an area where you can
buy handmade quilt or quilt-related items. We’ll have many
different items such as wall hangings, gift bags, placemats, pot holders, pin
cushions, items for babies and children, holiday ornaments &
decorations. Stop by and look over the variety of items. We think
you’ll probably find something for yourself or a gift for someone else.

The SILENT AUCTION has been a big attraction at our previous Quilt Shows. All items included in the silent auction are made by the Museum Quilt Guild Members. Visitors to the Quilt Show have the opportunity to bid on any or all of the items presented. As with all Silent Auctions, bids are placed on a list with the item name, a time is set when the winning bidders are announced. The person who put the final bid in is the winner. You can bid as often as you'd like right up until the bids are closed. This is a great way to obtain items to be used as gifts for others or as a treat to yourself. Pieces in the Silent Auction may include home decor, e.g. table runners, wall hangings; wearables such as purses, small totes; quilts, etc.The wall hanging pictured was created by Martha Lorshbaugh. Notice the exquisite quilting job which is quite evident on the back of the piece.
Due to formatting issues and the vagaries of computer programs, this picture refuses to straighten up. Turn your head to the right (it's a good neck exercise) and you'll see some of the other items available in the silent auction this year. There are even more items on view in the
