Some like it hot

On a steamy August day, we gathered to share our love of quilting, and to enjoy time with our quilting family. Little did we know what a special day it was...

At show and tell, there was the usual display of talent and inspiration.

Martha Lorshbaugh is finishing her UFOs this year. This baby quilt was made from scraps a friend gave her.

Nancy Ellers used some donated disappearing nine patch  blocks for this top for Community Service

Nancy Wise didn't really like this jelly roll quilt until she had it quilted at Mt Pleasant.

Gloria Crittenden made this from the march April "Quiltmania" magazine.

Trudy Kutter started this in 1992, and it's finally finished!

Kathy Belluscio found this community service quilt kit hiding in her sewing stuff after she moved, and finished it.

Cathy Judkins - made from a Judy neimeyer pattern, and had it quilted at Mt Pleasant.

Pat Gardner brought this in to ask for suggestions on adding more quilting in the center.

Donna Sofokles made this sweet mini (that she didn't realize she was holding upside down) from vintage scraps.
Donna found this pattern in "Simply Vintage" magazine.  It was made completely by hand.

Donna Tomski used "big stitch" quilting to finish this miniature, from a "This and That" pattern

Cheryl Doody started this "Lillibet's Garden" (pattern by Applewood Farms) quilt with a friend at guild  quite a few years ago and it's finally finished.  It's hand quilted!

Sandy Schufelt never makes one of anything!  The mats above were made of leftovers from the 60 degree table runner.
These beautiful Christmas tree skirts  are folded, not pieced- see below.

Lorraine West  made this sweet little pumpkin wall hanging, and the embroidered pincushion and wrist cuff/ bracelet below.

Unbeknownst to birthday girl Donna Tomski, her daughters arranged with Christine Hansen to surprise Donna with a special cake and the beautiful plant that dressed up the snack table.

Member Val Schultz filled in for the speaker who had to cancel, sharing her techniques for choosing quilting designs and treating us to a small trunk show of her work!

After the meeting, member Kathi Everett shared her love of embroidery/ crazy quilting with a group of eager students.

She brought a ton of samples- things she made and things she has gotten in swaps- to inspire.

Kathi's carefully arranged supply of silk ribbon for the class to use!

Everyone enjoyed themselves and went home with the basic tools they need to create their own works of art.

In September, we'll be working on Community Service quilts.  If you are able to come and don't know what to bring, contact Connie Grimsley or Vinnie Thjung.
