On a cold January day...

 On a frigid day in Western New York, the guild kept warm by spending time together, doing some shopping and enjoying the talents of our members who presented their entries to the annual challenge!

 Thanks to a large donation of fabric, the Community Service Committee ended up with quite a surplus.  Taking advantage of the flea market, they shared the largesse with guild members.  The money raised through this sale will help fund future community service projects.

No matter how much fabric quilters have, they're always willing to add to their stash!

The "regular" show and tell included some amazing work, as always!

Donna Tomski made this sweet little baby quilt, quilted by Mary Lowe.  (I'm  sorry the colors are so faded.) 

                                   Pat Gardner was happy to have finished this sort of UFO.

 

Kathy Belluscio originally started this for a baby girl, but decided it isn't a girl's quilt.  Fortunately, she has this ready for another little one who just arrived!

Mary Ellen Casey played with her ugly fabrics from the swap in December to test out this block.

Nancy Schrader used one of her ugly fabrics to make a star.  She had hoped to give it to the person who brought that fabric. If it was you, give Nancy a call!

Elaine Lemley added on to the center kaleidoscope she made years ago to make a twin bed quilt she gave to Community Service.

 Elaine also played with her "ugly" fabrics to make this amazing little quilt.  (she got a nicer collection than I did!

                         

Ann Renica is grateful to Val Schultz for offering to quilt the quilts donated for  "Sleep in Heavenly Peace", since it is allowing her to make things for the children in need.

ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS CHALLENGE

Gloria and Cynda have been eagerly awaiting the challenge reveal!  Gloria said it's her favorite day, so it seemed fitting that she showed her quilt first. (the first two)

Gloria said she hadn't seen many English paper pieced quilts on dark backgrounds.

Alex Hammon's entry is a pillow cover. She worked on some old appliqué blocks with her mom for this.

                                              Donna Tomski's sweet  little Easter bunnies.

Mary Ellen Casey used a picture she took of her neighbors field to make this.

Elaine Ross made a traditional quilt, which is not traditional for her.  The name represents the number of  "darned" half square triangles in the quilt.

                                 Sue Chiddy did English paper piecing as well for her entry.

                                 Dodie Morrison colored the kitties on this panel  with crayons! 

                      You have to see Mary Kozub's 3-D entry in person to appreciate it- it's so sparkly!

New member Patty Baxter also did some English paper piecing.  She said it would have had more machine quilting, but her machine is a jerk.  (aren't they all?)

Nancy Schrader dressed like her self portrait, which also used some of the "Ugly" fabric she got in December, so we'd recognize her.

                        Terry McGuire made a nativity scene to go with her collection of them.

Kathy Belluscio used a pattern she's had for a while to make her entry.  She's glad she did it, but wasn't enthusiastic about the whole process.  

Elaine Lemley used Linda M Poole's "painted appliqué" to create the center image on her entry.

Elaine used a gradation fabric for the leaves on this one, and added appliquéd flowers from the outer border.

                              Cynda used lots of plaids for her very traditional log cabin.

And lots of her hand dyed fabrics for this very non-traditional wings piece, based on street art she has seen.

As always, I will post better pictures with the quilt names once the exhibit is hung.  It will include entries from ladies who were unable to attend today's meeting.
